Report Child Abuse

Scotty's House is the Child Advocacy Center of the Brazos Valley. Founded in 1995, it is our mission to provide safety, healing and justice for children victimized by abuse through professional assessment, counseling and education in a compassionate and collaborative approach.
The following services are offered free of charge for our child clients and their non-offending family members:
Scotty's House provides forensic interviews and on-site medical examinations that minimize additional trauma to the child. A forensic interview is a structured conversation with a child intended to elicit detailed information about a possible event(s) that the child may have experienced or witnessed. Each child's interview is conducted by a trained Forensic Interviewer in a child friendly environment. A recording of the interview with the child is made available to agencies involved, thus reducing the number of times the child must retell the story. The recording may then be used in court proceedings.
Our Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner or Registered Nurse provides onsite medical exams and follow-up treatment. Forensic medical exams can address concerns, minimize trauma, and help the children heal. This availability of onsite exams offers the victim access to a safe, comforting, trusting approach and enhanced care.
Advocacy services are provided to each family that enters Scotty's House. Our Family Services Coordinator works with each family to provide information and referral to community resources, follow-up medical testing and treatment, assistance with crime victims' compensation and any other need identified by the family.
At Scotty's House, counseling is provided to children and their non-offending family members. Counseling can take shape in many forms: play therapy for younger children, art therapy, equine assisted psychotherapy, or support groups for children and their caregivers. Without counseling, children who are abused often experience severe social and psychological trauma that may include nightmares, hyper-vigilance, sleep difficulties, poor self-esteem, social isolation, increased use of drugs and alcohol, school failure, depression, and suicidal ideation.
